1. Brand-related background
Here in Europe, perhaps more than in any other part of the world, brand loyalty is something of a thing. A big thing, that is. Whether you’re red to the core and live your life around the Ferrari badge, or you have a thing for old-school german performance cars, you’re bound to like a brand, whether it’s from this continent or another. While we enjoy diversity, we’re deeply hung up on pertaining to a certain brand, club, community, or culture.
One of the most sought-after car makers is, of course, part of the German Big Three and, especially here in Romania, Audi has a huge fan base, which follows, buys, and tunes the German vehicles, no matter the model, year, or engine they could get their hands on. Of course, most of these fans have organized themselves in local clubs, spread nationwide, that annually host events, where all the four-circle brand lovers are welcome. For one of the 2021 meets, we were included on the list and our impressions are listed below.

If there’s one word that would describe this specific event, that would be diversity. Although under the same brand, we’ve been introduced to so many models, each with its own style and story to tell. The participants and the visitors were treated to lots of cars, from pure stock models to extremely modified ones, from mint-condition classics to modern riders.
All sorts of tuning styles were present at the event, like these menacing, murdered-out sedan, sitting on air suspensions.
Or this classy Audi 80, and its unique look, which takes us back to the late 80s style, when, it seems, things were simpler and more colorful.
Lots and lots of other Audis were flaunted in the huge parking lot. We managed to spot a nice cabrio, with a lovely exhaust sound, next to an impeccable TT, or this funny Avant model, with its unique Tom & Jerry decals. By the way, the Tom & Jerry recurring theme is something of an inside joke in the Audi community here in Romania, we’re still digging to find out the actual story behind it.
Family saloons, luxury limos, side by side with overpowered tuned hatchbacks, that’s the magic of a brand-related event. The passion for the same car maker brings together people who do not judge, who do not give out free advice, and who appreciate every model just as much as the one next to it.
3. Wheels, wheels, wheels
Just like any other car event, wheels are a big attraction, for the people who are just visiting as well as for the cameras. Whether they’re tucked, fitted just right, stock, or pertaining to another brand, the round forged wonders will always exert a special fascination on the audience.
What attracted us the most were two of the most different wheels we could find, side by side. A set of Japan Racing, all black, flow-forged rims, sitting next to some wonderfully crafted and restored BBS wheels from the 80s. Different vibes, both lovely in their own way.
Smaller rims, larger ones, 3-piece intricate wheels, some blade-like design borrowed from a Mercedes-Benz, the event had them all. And we’re glad it did because diversity is the key to a successful meet, satisfying all tastes and giving a chance to everyone, for showing off their creations.
Social distancing regulations? Yes. Not as many participants as usual? Also yes. However, the event was possible, and that’s something we wouldn’t even dream of in April 2020, one year ago. The fact that special cars are starting to get out again in the world, on the streets, is something to look forward to, for everyone involved in the auto world.
Local clubs getting together, celebrating their brand-oriented passion, sitting around the cars, presenting projects, asking for ideas, or simply enjoying the company of like-minded fellows, this will always be the bread and butter of such events.
Though it seems like in the last year, the pandemic brought the event industry to its knees, we’d like to report that it’s starting to bet back on its feet and rise again. And that’s really good news we should all rejoice on. Hopefully, more and more occasions will follow, for us to feature and shoot, but until then, we’re glad that the Audi community from Romania has opened the path towards normality, once again. Stay safe, see you soon!
