1. Little Car, Big Project
To be completely honest, the BMW 1 Series is not your typical choice of vehicle, when it comes to a tuning project. They’re most likely to be seen on suburb streets, driving kids to and from school, or parked outside big supermarkets, ready to take home the family groceries. So when an E87 came to our attention, we did not hesitate for one second and went to see what the fuss was all about.
The small hatchback is a classic 2005 version of the 1 Series, for which the owner wanted to go for a stanced look. Perhaps this was the main reason why the car was left unaltered under the hood, but that’s pretty much the only part left stock on the car.
One of the best things about building your own car, tailoring it as you please, is that you can go wild with it, and just do whatever you feel is right. Taking advice is always good, but then again, end of the day, it’s your own creation, your own vision, and whoever doesn’t agree with the result, can just go ahead and do a project of their own. Although, as we all know, it’s the people who can’t act on something, that do most of the talking...
2. Under The Spotlight
Taking a closer look at the car, we started to spot some nice adjustments, starting with an amazing custom air ride, made by Air Force Suspension, that perfectly complements the OZ Futura 17" wheels, for that desired lowered look.
The body also suffered some major modifications, like the custom-made, all-fiber, front bumper, a rear M Sport bumper, which continues even further, with a rear lip from Maxton Design. All the design elements go smoothly hand-in-hand with the overall style, nothing is left to hazard, nothing seems out of place.
Inside, we didn’t expect something too extreme, just a well-fitted custom steering wheel, and sporty Recaro seats, to enhance that driving experience to the max. Seeing that the 1 Series is one of the simpler models launched by the Bavarian brand, a clean and well-thought-out look was the perfect way to go, in terms of modifying the little hatchback.
3. Urban Culture And Beyond
Project cars have always been a big part of automotive culture, and with every creation that sees the light of day, said culture will continue to go on. Doesn’t matter if it’s a muscle, a jdm, an old-timer, a race car, or even a simple, small, blue German hatchback. The truth of the matter is, we went to take photos of a car but left home with much more than that.
This specific car, the modified 1 Series we had for the day, has proved itself, in our book. Not subtle, yet still decent, not extreme, yet still eye-catching, it has it all and doesn’t need too much added or taken out. Just a cool, fresh car, that will never be less fun than its sportier counterparts and it will never fade out in comparison to more in-depth projects.
Cruising down the streets, the alleys, the big city avenues, in a car that represents the very essence of who you are, that should always remain the true reason behind building an exclusive vehicle. And as long as you got what you imagined, at the end of the day, no other opinion matters.
