1. Early In The Morning
The cold autumn morning did not seem very friendly, but a job is a job, and we’ve been planning this road trip material for too long now. Little did we know what bright day lay ahead, as we were driving towards the meeting spot, a small gas station just on the A3 highway entrance.
We came up with the idea of gathering these special little Golfs back in July when we organized Ladies & Engines - 2nd Edition, seeing there’s so much passion in the Golf community, especially from the girl owners. We’d like to see them all united, at a certain point since there’s a lot of potential in building a strong group there. But, who knows what the future holds?
After we got some highway miles done, the clouds vanished, and the sun appeared, probably for one last time this year, shining bright, matching the sparkles in our guests’ eyes. Three girls and their Golfs, one magical road trip, lots of stories waiting to be told, and a warm, sunny Sunday. What more could we ask for, when creating a special material?
2. Candy Red
The red Variant Pacific Golf is a car with a huge story behind it, filled with memories and adventures, as it has been in Alexia’s family since she was a little girl, hence the desire to keep it forever. We found out some really cool stories, from sleeping in the red Golf when she had her college admittance exam, to driving to various auto shows, where the car got invited throughout the years.
As far as mods go, the main thing that pops is that amazing color, borrowed from Mercedes, called Jupiter Red. The wheels are Ispiri CSR1D 8.5J and 9.5J, sustained by a Ta-Technix suspension, adjustable on both height and stiffness. On the outside, there are also some cool Depo headlights (GTI-look), a 25th Anniversary kit, and a GTI-style rear spoiler.
Inside, nothing stayed stock. Starting with the custom Vibe & Edge audio system, followed by an OEM modified navigation, with added Bluetooth and microphone technologies. The steering wheel has been imported from an R32, and, to top it all off, Alexia has added two leather-heated Recaro seats. As far as her project goes, there are some next mods to be added, but by seeing the way she looks at her car, we’d say that she’s pleased by the final result. Good job indeed!
3. Black Beauty
As far as rare Golfs go, you won’t find many cabrio models out there. A Euro icon of the 90s, it still turns heads, since it’s not your regular hatchback design. In my opinion, this particular type of Golf will remain timeless and revered forever.
Discreet tuning was applied to the little cabrio, just as much as to not keep it stock, but nothing too extreme, to avoid erasing its heritage. We noticed the sound system, with an Alpine subwoofer and the JBL speakers. Outside, the gorgeous Lenso BSX wheels are sublimely complimented by the DTS Black Edition adjustable sport suspension, creating a young, fresh, vibrant little summer-fun car. Well, not only for summer but just saying…
Amina told us the story behind finding this specific model, and it all began with a love-at-first-sight feeling, as all great stories do. Instantly deciding to get it, she traveled hundreds of miles to come back home, driving her new daily partner. As far as we could tell, the love story is as strong as the first day and will most likely remain so. Great stuff right there.
4. Blue Wonder
Last, but not least, an impressive car and a more impressive story behind the way it was built. Ana bought the car almost 5 years ago, when it had 14” stock wheels and the check oil light on. What followed is truly amazing. Suffering a massive crash a couple of years back, the Golf wasn’t abandoned, but saved and reconstructed. Piece by piece, to become the car that it is today and to get invited to various auto shows, all across Romania.
The Golf is an Mk4 from 1998, featuring a double exhaust, adjustable sport suspension, 17” Japan Racing JR11 wheels, and the body kit from an R32. The splitters for the front and rear bumpers and the side skirts were handcrafted by Ana herself, just to understand how much passion was invested in this project. Inside, Sportline interior with Alcantara accents, a 2500-watt Hifonics amplifier, and a Mac subwoofer, connected to a line of Hertz speakers.
Putting so much effort, time, money, and love into a build can be overwhelming sometimes. Not for Ana, though, who told us that even to this day, after a long road trip, she kisses the car and gives thanks for bringing both her and her little daughter home safely. Now, if that's not a special relationship, we don’t know what is.
5. Drive On
And, on our way we went, exploring the roads around Bucharest, driving with no set destination in mind, just enjoying the last autumn sun and a day spent with a really cool and passionate group of people. The funky, joyful Golfs were a sight to remember, as I glanced at them in the rearview mirror of our own car.
One could not help wonder, what these girls created with their small hatchbacks. A diverse group of cars, each modified in its own particular style, each carrying a wonderful and unique story? For sure. The beginning of a wonderful friendship? Definitely. The foundation of a new and exclusive club, for girls and their love for Golfs? Perhaps, considering the attention that this particular model has throughout Europe. Who can tell what the future will bring? One thing’s certain, though, the fact that the inseparable bond between these girls and their cars is something authentic and everlasting, like all things powered by love are.
